For the City of Orting’s 2018 Shoreline Master Program (SMP) periodic review, BHC completed the Washington State Department of Ecology’s review checklist and led all aspects of the update process. We prepared and implemented a Public Participation Program, which included poster sessions at local festivals and a week-long advertised poster display at the Orting Library, to encourage broad community engagement. We coordinated closely with the Department of Ecology, presented the SMP periodic update to the Planning Commission, and organized the joint review and public hearings process. Throughout the process, we worked jointly with the City to review and update the City’s restoration plan and reduce redundancies between the SMP and the City’s updated Critical Areas Ordinance, ensuring consistency and clarity across regulatory documents.
