Lynnwood
Washington
BHC led neighborhood planning efforts in South Lynnwood to amplify the voices of residents who are typically underrepresented in planning. In partnership with Uncommon Bridges and ECO Northwest, BHC developed an equity-centered neighborhood plan that supports the local economy and reflected the City’s commitment to protect vulnerable communities from displacement. In developing the fundamentals of the plan, BHC coordinated a robust public engagement strategy that intentionally included residents who have not traditionally had their voices and perspectives included in neighborhood plans as equal partners with the City. A co-design committee discussed neighborhood demographics, land use, housing, employment, economic development, and environmental factors impacting their neighborhood. These findings, along with targeted outreach efforts, informed comprehensive policy recommendations, implementation strategies, and collaboration opportunities for the City that support inclusive economic development and stabilize communities at risk of displacement.
