Anchorage Regional Landfill (ARL) Cell 11, 12, and 8B Development

About

In 2013 the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services (SWS) decided to combine the next two planned landfill Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) cells 11 and 12 into a combined cell 11/12.  They also wanted to expand their construction and demolition debris (CDD) capacity by adding a new CDD cell, Cell 8B, and improve the leachate management facilities to eliminate difficult to maintain piping and valves.  As part of a multidisciplinary project team, BHC was responsible for the design of the lining and leachate collection systems, as well as improvements to the leachate pretreatment facilities.

Features:

  • 30 acre MSW landfill horizontal expansion
  • Leachate management facility improvements
  • GCL alternative to low permeability soil component of subtitle D lining system
